Craigellachie Scottish Dance Band

Craigellachie is one of the UK’s most innovative and exciting Scottish Country Dance bands based south of the border. For over 30 years they have been playing disciplined Scottish dance music that is both good to dance and listen to, taking pride in their musical arrangements. They are at home in ballroom or at reeling parties.

On this website you can find out where they are playing, download sound clips, sheet music, and learn more about Craigellachie’s music and its individual members

  • Weymouth Scottish Dancers – Gala Ball

Last night we played at the Herrison Hall Dorchester for the Weymouth Scottish Dancers Gala Ball. It’s 4 years since we played here due to the pandemic and it was good to be back. It’s a long drive for us all but the magnificent hall, good crowd of enthusiastic dancers made very much worth while.

After missing last year due to refurbishment, the St. Andrews Ball is back and with 170 dancers packed into Broomhouse, and the usual mix of Reelers and Country Dancers, the vibrant atmosphere was as exciting as ever. It’s good to be back! It was also lovely to welcome back Mary Felgate on fiddle to make up our 5 piece band.

The Harwell Ball is our longest standing regular booking, stretching back to the very beginning of the band in the 1980s. Originally held at the A.E.R.E (Atomic Energy Research Establishment), the ball is now co-hosted with the Abingdon club which helped to fill the hall with enthusiastic dancers. Times have changed a lot over the years but the buzz of playing for such exciting events never fades.

A new venue for us in Berkshire playing for the St John’s Scottish Dancing Club Ball. It was a pleasure to play in a hall with excellent acoustics, and for another very appreciative crowd too!

We packed the stage again last night with a five piece band at the London Highland Club Autumn Dance. Six if you include working with our very own expert MC, Caroline Hamilton. Always great to play at Pont St, London’s premier venue for Scottish Dancing.

It’s so good to be back on stage at the Oxford Ball, and great to be joined by Barbara Manning and John Browne. There’s always an enthusiastic welcome at Oxford but with a sellout crowd, the hall was fairly jumpin’.
