Craigellachie Scottish Dance Band

Craigellachie is one of the UK’s most innovative and exciting Scottish Country Dance bands based south of the border. For over 30 years they have been playing disciplined Scottish dance music that is both good to dance and listen to, taking pride in their musical arrangements. They are at home in ballroom or at reeling parties.

On this website you can find out where they are playing, download sound clips, sheet music, and learn more about Craigellachie’s music and its individual members

  • Isle of Wight Weekend School 2024

  • Weymouth Scottish Dancers – Gala Ball

Last night we played at the Herrison Hall Dorchester for the Weymouth Scottish Dancers Gala Ball. It’s 4 years since we played here due to the pandemic and it was good to be back. It’s a long drive for us all but the magnificent hall, good crowd of enthusiastic dancers made very much worth while.

Graham (drums), Judith (keyboard), Keith (fiddle), John (Harmony Accordion) and Ian (lead)

The group meets on Thursday Evenings from 7 pm to 9.30 pm at the Southill Community Centre in Weymouth. There is ample free parking close by at the Southill shopping centre. You can contact Weymouth Scottish Country Dancers via the club email address, wscd1314@gmail.com

A great night at Summer Tuesdays with a large and enthusiastic crowd enjoying the excellent programme which contained a number of “Summer Tuesday specials”, one of which was Dance with Mother, written for our drummer’s Mum, Patricia Hamilton.

For our last gig of the season at the RSCDS BHS Border Branch Ball we packed the stage with all six of our regular musicians. Led, of course, by Ian Muir on lead accordion with Ali McCan and Keith Anderson on fiddle, John Browne on 2nd box, Judith Muir on keyboard and Graham Hamilton on drums. The band was supported as always by Caroline Hamilton who took care of the sound and photographs. Thanks to all the societies and dance organisers who booked us this year, it’s been great fun.

We are playing at Summer Tuesdays on 8th July and will be back for the start of next season in the Autumn.

Have a great summer everyone.

We had a brilliant night yesterday at a birthday celebration in Bristol where we were joined by a very special guest on 2nd accordion, Ian Muir! This was the first time that the two Ians have performed together, hopefully not the last!

As Oscar Wilde nearly said, “to have one Ian Muir in the band can be regarded as fortunate, to have both looks like greediness”
